Leaders In Training

Dragon Zone Leaders In Training (LIT) Program is designed to help local teens build leadership skills, earn community service hours, as well as aquire real work experience. 

Volunteering at the DZ summer camps will give teens the opportunity to experience community service learning in a fun and supportive environment.


To be an LIT for LVCS Dragon Zone Camps you must:

  • be14-17 years old (an incoming Sophomore-Senior in High School 2015-2016 school year)*
  • have an ability to work with children, peers and adults in a postivite professional manner
  • have a willingness to lead, learn and have fun
  • be a positive role model for other youth
  • be non-violent with no criminal activity
  • be available to work at least one two-week session of DZ summer camp (9am-4pm)
  • be available to participate in the mandatory training day (date TBD)

*preference will be given to Junior and Seniors at any Livermore area high school.


Job Description

LITs are responsible for providing peer leadership at camp. They are expected to serve as positive role models for campers as well as provide assistance to camp staff. LITs are expected to participate fully in all activities at all times and to provide leadership in various activities when asked. LITs report to Camp Director and Site Supervisor.


Main Responsibilities

  • Assist DZ staff to create a fun and safe environment for all. 
  • Help  DZ staff in camp activities.
  • Help get campers involved in activities.
  • Accompany  DZ staff  in guiding campers from one activity to another (on or off site).
  • Inform  DZ staff of any problems: Report camper issues to  DZ staff.  Report other issues to Camp Director or Site Supervisor.
  • Encourage campers to participate through your own participation.
  • Encourage campers to get to know each other and to work as a group.
  • Follow camp rules and expectations and be able to explain rules to campers.
  • Have FUN!!!!

Selection Process*

  • Complete and submit the LIT application (link below).
  • Submit at least 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or school adminstrator.
  • Participate in an interview with LVCS/Dragon Zone administration and/or staff.


*If selected, LIT will receive a full day training, t-shirt, and any possible field trip/admission fees will be paid. (there is no cost to participate in this year's LIT program)
