The El Dorado County Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA) is one of 117 SELPAs within California. SELPAs must ensure that special education services are available to all eligible children residing within the region and oversee the distribution of funds to districts. Each SELPA has developed a Local Plan describing how it will provide special education services.

The El Dorado County SELPA is responsible for special education programs run by the County Office of Education as well as the 14 districts on the western slope. (Lake Tahoe Unified School District is a separate SELPA).
